No Surprises

The daily routines were clicking along as they did most days. The phone was ringing, and the kids were loud. Everything seems normal.  All of a sudden . . .

Normal changed two thousand years ago. The Lord was going to observe the Passover, a Jewish holiday, with his 12 disciples for the last time.

Peter and John were assigned the task of preparing for the night’s meeting. They were to go to a nearby village and follow a man carrying a water pitcher which was an unusual event. Only women would go to the well for water. When the water carrier delivered the water, the two disciples were to ask the location of the banquet room. After receiving directions, they were to prepare the room for the Passover meal.

This brings me to the thought for consideration.

The Devine appointment occurred when Peter and John would enter the village. A servant caring water from the central well would be returning home. Jesus also knew who had a room prepared for the supper (rooms were scarce for the million-plus people in Jerusalem observing the Passover).

So, what’s the point?

The fact, Jesus knows everything about everybody. He knows what will happen before it happens. No one can surprise the Lord; it is the Lord who surprises us. For example, the world did not expect a flood, but Noah did. Elijah had never experienced a ride in a whirlwind. To put Jonah on his journey, he was given his first roller coaster ride in a fish’s belly.

The Lord knows everything before it happens; there are no surprises with the Lord. Our God knows our needs before there is a need. The timing of the Lord’s solution is always right. He is not early nor is he late. We can trust him completely to do what is best. All we need is the faith to trust him and do his will.
